WhistlePig Best In Show

This past Sunday Old Hickory had the pleasure of hosting The WhistlePig Best in Show Competition where the grand prize was to win a trip to the WhistlePig Farm! Local bartenders not only made the cocktails for the wonderful judges but also handed out samples to the guests. To top it off Ingrid Shawn Rodriguez, the Steward of the Brand for Northern Florida drove up to inform all of our wonderful patrons about WhistlePig. Here are the competitiors and where they represent:
Jeffrey Knott formerly of Seville Quarter
Kelly Blackwell representing Old Hickory Whiskey Bar
Andrew Pope representing Old Hickory Whiskey Bar
Noal Smith representing Old Hickory Whiskey Bar
Aaron Slayde Martin representing The Pearl RB
Patrick Bolster representing Union Public House

Taking home first prize and winning the trip to WhistlePig Farms was Pat Bolster from Union Public House, second was out very own Andy Pope, and third was Jeff Knott from Seville Quarter.

We had a blast having everyone come out and support your local bartenders and watching what they love to do!

3rd Annual Jameson Competition

Wednesday night was a big night here at Old Hickory! Local bartenders from around Pensacola competed for the title of Jameson Irish Chef. This year was the 3rd year that we have held the competition and the turn out couldn't have been better. With ingredients ranging from dill pickle relish to lucky charms, each bartender had 8 minutes to create a special drink to be auctioned off to help raise money for Ballet Pensacola. Congrats to the winner Mike McGlothlin with his secret ingredient being pistachio jello. Second place went to our very own Andy Pope for his Lucky Charms cereal drink and third to Shana Walden with lime yogurt. We were able to raise over $500 for Ballet Pensacola! Cheers!

Dalmore and Cigars

What better way to enjoy a beautiful evening than with Scotch & Cigars? We were lucky enough to spend out evening with Britton Hunter the Premise Field Marketing Manager for North Florida from E&J Gallo Winery to learn all about the history of Dalmore. Guests were able to try Dalmore 12, 15, 18, and the Cigar Malt. To finish off the night we did a blind tasting with Remy 1728 out on the patio with two cigars. Guests moved outside about halfway through the class where they were given a perfect cigar pairing for what they were tasting. The cigars were AVO Synchro and Fuente Hemingway. This class was a lot of fun for both the guests and the staff. Thanks to Britton making this experience well worth it!

High West Distillery: Whiskey Class

Marita Leonard, Florida Sales Manager with High West Distillery, took center stage this week at our monthly whiskey class. Guests were lucky enough to taste SEVEN different whiskeys from their line, including the newly released American Prairie. Big thank you to Premier Beverage for joining us this month, and of course to all of our guests for attending! Don't miss next month's class on May 13th. Cheers, y'all!

Jameson Irish Chef Bartending Competition

Last Thursday, bartenders from around Pensacola (and even Destin!) competed against one another, Iron Chef style, for the title of Jameson Irish Chef Bartending Competition winner. Secret ingredients ranged from mint to lime Jell-O mix to Lucky Charms cereal; all things green or Irish! Congrats to the 1st place winner, Kyle Wagner-Lau from Casino Beach Bar with cucumbers! 2nd place went to our very own Darren Campbell with grapes, and 3rd to Patrick Bolster from 5 1/2 Bar with Lucky Charms.

Thank you to Southern Wine & Spirits for sponsoring the competition and bringing in treats from McGuire's Irish Pub!

Taste of the Irish: Whiskey Class

Last week, Michael McIntosh, Luxury Specialist with Republic National Distributing Company, led our monthly whiskey class on Irish Whiskeys in a blind tasting format. Guests tasted whiskeys from 3 different distilleries, including Irishman, Irishman Single Malt, Irishman Cask Strength, Teeling, & Concannon. Big thanks to Michael for also bringing along the Irishman Cask Strength as a surprise!

Don't miss out on next month's class. High West will be showing off their delicious line of whiskeys!
